We are the Salt 우리는 소금이다

I spoke too much English this morning.
오늘 아침에 제가 너무 많은 영어를 말했습니다.

I think I'm getting a cramp in my tongue.
혀에 쥐가 나는 것 같습니다.

Now, I'd like us to turn to the Gospel of Matthew chapter 5.
이제, 마태복음 5장을 함께 보시겠습니다.

Matthew chapter 5 verse 13.
마태복음 5장 13절입니다.

Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.
너희는 땅의 소금이로되 만일 소금이 제 맛을 잃으면 무엇으로 그것을 짜게 하리요? 그 뒤에는 그것이 아무 쓸모없으므로 버려져서 사람들의 발밑에 밟힐 뿐이니라.

By the grace of God, I’d like to share with you my message entitled “We are the salt.”
“우리는 소금이다”라는 제목으로 하나님의 은혜를 나누기 원합니다.

Let's pray for the message.
잠시 말씀을 위해서 기도하겠습니다. (기도)

Gracious Heavenly Father, thank You for Your grace and peace that You have bestowed upon us.
은혜로우신 하나님 아버지, 우리에게 주신 은혜와 평강으로 인하여 감사합니다.

I pray that You will anoint Your word and please speak to each of our hearts.
이 시간에 주님의 말씀에 기름 부으시고, 주께서 친히 각 사람의 마음에 말씀하시기 원합니다.

Please cover all the thoughts of man. We want to listen to only Your Word.
사람의 생각은 다 가려주시고, 오직 주님의 말씀만 듣기 원합니다.

Please be with us during this time.
이 시간 우리와 함께하여 주시기 원합니다.

Opening 서론
I'd like to talk about salt, a subject that is very familiar to our lives.
저는 우리 생활 속에서 아주 친근한 소금에 대한 말씀드리고자 합니다.

And I'd like us to think about the truth that we are the salt.
또한 우리 자신이 소금이라는 사실에 대해 함께 생각해보기 원합니다.

Some hyper-dispensationalists said that the phrase "the salt of the earth" is only talking about the Jews. 어떤 극단적인 세대주의자들은 여기서 “땅의 소금”이 유대인을 가리킨다고 말합니다.

They explained that the Jews have lost their savour, and now they are trodden by the Gentiles.
지금 유대인이 제 맛을 잃었기 때문에 이방인들에게 밟히는 신세가 되었다

So they claim that it is biblically wrong to say "Christians are the salt."
그래서 그리스도인을 소금이라고 말하면 안 된다고 주장하기도 합니다.

I need to study in more depth about it, but I believe there's nothing wrong with applying this verse to my life as a Christian. 더 깊이 살펴볼 필요는 있겠지만, 저는 이 구절을 저의 삶에 적용하는데 아무런 문제가 없다고 믿습니다.

Jesus is also saying this verse to His disciples.
예수님께서도 제자들을 향해 이 말씀을 하고 계십니다.

From the last part of the verse 1 and 2 it says "...his disciples came unto him: And he opened his mouth..."
1절 뒷부분부터 보시면요 “...그분의 제자들이 그분께 나아오매 그분께서 입을 열어...”

Are we disciples of the Lord Jesus?
우리는 주 예수님의 제자입니까?

Amen. We are disciples.
아멘. 우리는 제자입니다.

We can find many requirements for disciples in the Bible.
우리는 성경에서 많은 제자의 필요조건을 찾아볼 수 있습니다.

I'd like to mention just one of the requirements.
그 중에 한 가지만 말씀드리면요.

The Gospel of John chapter 13 verse 35.
요한복음 13장 35절입니다.

By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.
너희가 서로 사랑하면 이로써 모든 사람이 너희가 내 제자인 줄 알리라.

I think love is the most important requirement for disciples.
저는 사랑이야말로 제자의 최고의 필요조건이라고 생각합니다.

I don't know many things about any of you, because I've only been with you for an hour.
저는 여러분을 한 시간 정도 밖에 보지 못했기 때문에 많이 알지 못합니다.

But I can feel your love and patience.
그러나 저는 여러분의 사랑과 인내를 느낄 수 있습니다.

You are listening to this young and inexperienced man's preaching.
여러분은 이 어리고 초라한 청년의 설교를 듣고 계십니다.

I think that would be impossible without the love of the Lord.
주님의 사랑 없이는 불가능하다고 생각합니다.

Thank you for your love and endurance.
여러분의 사랑과 인내를 감사합니다.

I hope our love can be greater and that we will be better disciples of the Lord.
우리의 사랑이 더 커지고 더 좋은 주님의 제자가 되기를 원합니다.

Jesus is speaking to all of us, His disciples, when He says, “Ye are the salt of the earth.”
예수님께서는 자신의 제자인 우리 모두에게 “너희는 땅의 소금이라”라고 말씀하고 계십니다.

Jesus doesn't say, “Try to be the salt.”
예수님께서는 “너희는 땅의 소금이 되도록 노력하라”라고 말씀하지 않으십니다.

Just simply He says, “Ye are the salt.” 
그냥 단순하게 “너희는 소금이다”라고 말씀하십니다.

According to this verse, what is our identity?
이 말씀에 따르면 우리의 정체는 무엇입니까?

Yes, we are the salt of the earth.
네, 우리는 땅의 소금입니다.

We don't have to choose, try, or make a decision to be the salt. We are already the salt.
우리 자신이 소금이 되려고 선택하거나 결단하거나 노력할 필요가 없이 우리는 이미 땅의 소금입니다.

From this point on, I'd like to talk about the salt.
그럼 지금부터 소금에 대한 이야기를 하나씩 나눠보겠습니다.

Salt is vital for life 생명에 반드시 필요한 소금

Leviticus chapter 17 verse 14 says, ...for the life of all flesh is the blood...
레위기 17장 14절에서는 “...이는 피가 모든 육체의 생명이기 때문이니...”라고 말씀합니다.

We can live without hands or eyes, but we cannot live without blood.
우리는 손이나 눈이 없이 살수도 있지만, 피가 없으면 안됩니다.

So the blood in our bodies is our life.
그래서 우리의 몸에 있는 피는 우리의 생명과도 같습니다.

By the way, the blood of humans contains 0.9% of salinity.
그런데 사람의 피는 0.9%가 염분으로 되어있습니다.

It's not 1% but 0.9% of a little salinity ingredient.
1%도 아니고 0.9%의 아주 적은 소금 성분입니다.

Because of this small percentage of salinity people can maintain life.
이 소금 성분이 있기 때문에 사람은 생명을 유지하고 있습니다.

So when we taste our tears or sweat, they are salty.
그래서 우리가 눈물이나 땀의 맛을 보게 되면 짠 것을 알 수가 있습니다.

This salinity ingredient speeds up metabolism, promotes digestion, and makes the stomach, heart and liver stronger.
이 피 속의 소금 성분이 사람의 몸속에서 신진대사를 촉진시키고, 소화를 돕고 위장 기능을 강화시키고, 심장과 신장 기능까지도 강화시킨다고 합니다.

Until we were born, we lived for 9 months in our mother's womb.
우리가 태어날 때 어머니 뱃속에서 10개월을 살게 되는데요.

And the amniotic fluid in our mother's womb is really similar to the water in the ocean.
그 어머니 뱃속에 있는 양수가 바닷물과 아주 흡사하다고 합니다.

So to speak, mankind is formed in salt water for 9 months before birth.
말하자면 사람은 태어나기 전에 10개월 동안 소금물 속에서 형성되었다고 할 수 있습니다.

Salt is vital to people.
소금은 사람에게 반드시 필요한 것입니다.

Salt was in our mother's womb and now it's flowing in our blood.
우리가 태어날 때 어머니 뱃속에 소금이 있었고, 또한 우리의 피 속에도 지금 소금이 흐르고 있습니다.

The salt is the same as our life.
소금은 우리의 생명과도 같습니다.

Jesus is saying in the text, “Ye are the salt.”
예수님께서는 본문 말씀에서 우리를 가리켜 소금이라 하셨습니다.

We are vital people in this world.
우리는 이 땅에서 반드시 필요한 사람들입니다.

This is not because we are very good and nice, but because we are people who have the life of Jesus Christ.
우리 자신의 잘나고 뛰어나서가 아니라 우리가 예수 그리스도의 생명을 가진 사람들이기 때문입니다.

We are the salt of the earth.
우리는 땅의 소금입니다.

We all have a purpose and role to fulfill on this earth.
우리는 모두 이 땅에 존재하는 목적과 역할을 가지고 있습니다.

Our daily life is the life as the salt on this earth.
우리가 하루하루 살아가는 삶은 이 땅에서 소금으로써의 삶입니다.

The salt is in charge of the ministry of life in the mother's womb to prepare for the birth of life and it is part of the blood that helps to maintain life.
소금은 사람이 탄생할 때 어머니 양수 속에서, 그리고 생명을 유지할 때 사람의 피 속에서 생명의 사역을 담당하고 있습니다.

The salinity ingredient in the blood of a human’s body is very low, only 0.9%, but by that, people can live healthy.
사람의 피 속의 소금 성분은 0.9%의 아주 적은 양이지만 그것으로 말미암아 사람은 건강을 유지하며 살아갑니다.

Likewise, in this world, at our jobs or in our work, we seem so small and weak even lower than 1%, like 0.9%.
마찬가지로 우리 자신은 세상에서 볼 때, 내가 속한 어떤 직장이나, 일터에서 볼 때 1%도 안 되는 0.9% 같은 아주 미약하고 보잘 것 없는 것 같습니다.

But that tiny position and influence we have is very important, for the birth and maintenance of life.
그러나 그 작은 역할은 생명을 탄생시키고 유지시키는, 너무나 중요한 것입니다.

Wherever we are placed, we are there for God's purpose.
우리가 현재 위치하고 있는 곳이 어디든지 하나님께서 우리를 그곳에 넣으신 목적이 있습니다.

God puts us there because we are vital for that position.
하나님께서는 우리가 반드시 필요하기 때문에 그 자리에 두신 것입니다.

We are the salt.
우리는 소금입니다.

We need to take charge of the ministry of life in the place wherever we are put.
우리는 우리가 존재하는 그 자리에서 생명의 사역을 감당해야 합니다.

We can help the souls who are without Jesus and have no life so that they may have everlasting life. 아직 예수님을 모르고 생명이 없는 영혼들에게 생명을 주는 역할을 할 수도 있고,

And we can help born-again brothers and sisters to be healthy spiritually.
또한 이미 거듭난 형제 자매들이 영적으로 건강하게 하는 도움을 줄 수 있습니다.

I'd like us to remember that, even though our role is so tiny, lower than 1%, we can make a difference. 우리의 역할은 1%도 안 되는 작은 것 같지만 반드시 필요한 것임을 기억하기 원합니다.

Therefore do not be discouraged when you feel that your position is too small.
그러므로 나의 역할이 작다고 느껴질 때 낙심하지 마시기 바랍니다.

It is very necessary for us to be faithful in our tiny role that God has given us.
하나님께서 나에게 주신 작은 역할을 신실하게 감당하는 것이 우리에게 반드시 필요합니다.

Salt is vital for the prevention of corruption 부패를 막는데 반드시 필요한 소금

Salt also prevents corruption.
또한 소금은 부패를 막아줍니다.

Do you like apples?
여러분 사과 좋아하십니까?

I love green apples.
저는 초록색 사과를 정말 좋아하는데요.

Sometimes the ladies of my church cut up apples after the services.
저희 교회 자매님들께서는 가끔씩 모임 후에 사과를 깎아주십니다.

Generally, the color of cut apples starts turning brown just a minute after they are cut.
보통 사과는 깎아놓고 시간이 조금만 지나면 누렇게 변합니다.

However, the apples in my church don’t change color.
그런데 저희 교회 사과는 색이 잘 변하지 않습니다.

One day, I was wondering about that and I asked about their secret.
하루는 제가 너무 궁금해서 그 비법을 물어보았습니다.

The secret was salt.
그 비밀은 바로 소금이었습니다.

The ladies submerged the cut apples in salt water. That's the secret.
자매님들께서 껍질 벗긴 사과를 소금물 속에 침례를 주셨는데요. 그것이 바로 비밀이었습니다.

Submersion was the secret.
침례가 바로 비밀이었습니다.

In the past, when we didn’t have refrigerators, people used salt to preserve food.
과거에 전기냉장고가 없을 때 사람들은 음식물을 위해 소금을 사용했습니다.

Not only that, but the ocean has not corrupted even from all of the dirty water in the world flowing into it, because the salt in the ocean preserves it.
뿐만 아니라 세상의 온갖 더러운 물들이 다 바다로 흘러가지만 바로 소금 때문에 바다는 썩지 않습니다.

Salt symbolizes the holiness that prevents corruption.
소금은 부패를 방지하는 거룩함을 상징합니다.

Leviticus chapter 2 is talking about the meat offering.
레위기 2장에서는 음식헌물에 대해서 말씀하고 있는데요.

I'll read Leviticus chapter 2 verse 13. 레위기 2장 13절 말씀을 제가 읽어드리겠습니다.

And every oblation of thy meat offering shalt thou season with salt; neither shalt thou suffer the salt of the covenant of thy God to be lacking from thy meat offering: with all thine offerings thou shalt offer salt.
첫 열매의 봉헌물에 소금을 칠 것이니라. 너는 네 하나님의 언약의 소금이 네 음식 헌물에서 빠지지 않게 할지니 너는 네 모든 헌물과 함께 소금을 드릴지니라.

The people of Israel were to season the meat offering with salt.
이스라엘 백성은 음식헌물을 드릴 때 반드시 소금을 함께 드려야 했습니다.

The white color of the salt means cleanliness.
소금의 하얀색은 또한 정결함을 의미합니다.

And its feature of preventing corruption symbolizes holiness.
또한 부패를 방지하는 성분 또한 거룩함을 상징합니다.

We are the salt.
우리는 땅의 소금입니다.

We are fulfilling our role in this earth which is to prevent evil and maintain purity and holiness.
우리는 이 땅에서 악을 억제하고 순수함과 거룩함을 유지하는 역할을 감당하게 됩니다.

What will happen in this world when the rapture occurs and millions of believers disappear?
장차 휴거가 일어나고 이 땅에서 그리스도인들이 사라지게 될 때 이 세상이 어떻게 될까요?

As the Bible says, it will be the beginning of the Great Tribulation.
말씀 그대로 대환란의 시작이 될 것입니다.

We are fulfilling the role of salt in this earth, not because we are great or holy, but because Christ dwells in us.
우리 자신이 대단하고 거룩해서가 아니라, 우리 안에 계신 그리스도로 인하여 우리는 이 땅에서 소금의 역할을 감당하고 있습니다.

I hope our lives will be more holy and pure every day, like our Lord , by trusting Him.
우리의 삶이 주님을 의지함으로 말미암아, 매일 더 거룩해지고 순수해져서 주님을 닮기 원합니다.

Salt is vital in cooking in order to make the food delicious 맛을 내는데 반드시 필요한 소금

 
And salt is necessary in cooking in order to make the food delicious.
또한 소금은 맛을 내는데 반드시 필요합니다.

Have you ever seen Koreans eat dried seaweed?
제가 지금 영어로 미국 분들에게 김 먹는 것을 본적 있느냐고 여쭤보았는데요.

Koreans roast seaweed with salt and sesame oil and it's so delicious.
이제 김을 보통 소금하고 참기름을 묻혀서 굽지요. 굉장히 맛있습니다.

Commonly, we eat the roasted seaweed as a side dish, but sometimes I eat it without rice.
보통은 김을 밥이랑 같이 먹는데요, 때때로 저는 김을 그냥 밥 없이 먹습니다.

And then I can taste sesame oil, but the taste of salt is better.
참기름 맛도 나지만 주로 소금 맛으로 먹습니다.

In my church we have lunch together on Sundays.
저희 교회는 주일날 점심을 같이 먹습니다.

Almost every child is so picky.
대부분의 아이들이 편식을 합니다.

When they feel there's no delicious side dish for them, they only eat rice and seaweed.
이제 아이들이 보기에 맛있는 반찬이 없어 보이면, 밥하고 김만 먹습니다.

I'm a Sunday school teacher so when I see a child like that I always give them some kimchi. I say to them, "You have to eat this, too."
저는 주일학교 선생님이기 때문에 그런 아이를 보게 되면 김치를 꼭 같이 먹으라고 줍니다.

Anyways, salt is delicious.
아무튼 소금은 맛있습니다.

Wow, I'm hungry. How about you?
와, 배 고프네요. 여러분은 어떠십니까?

I know one Christian brother. His job is making breads.
빵을 만드는 일을 하시는 한 형제님이 있는데요.

He said all dough needs salt.
모든 반죽에는 소금이 들어간다고 합니다.

In the Old Testament, the book of Job also talks about salt.
욥기에도 보시면 소금이야기가 나옵니다.

Job chapter 6 verse 6.
욥기 6장 6절인데요,

Can that which is unsavoury be eaten without salt? or is there any taste in the white of an egg?
맛없는 것을 소금도 없이 먹을 수 있겠느냐? 달걀의 흰자위가 무슨 맛이 있겠느냐?

I don't know if Job liked fried eggs or boiled eggs, but I think he liked salt.
욥이 계란 후라이를 좋아했는지, 삶은 계란을 좋아했는지 모르겠지만 소금은 좋아했던 것 같습니다.

We are the salt.
우리는 소금입니다.

Therefore we are delicious.
그러므로 우리는 맛있습니다.

I mean that when people meet us they can taste us.
사람들이 우리를 대할 때 맛을 느낍니다.

What kind of tastiness do I mean?
그 맛이 무슨 맛일까요?

The Gospel of Mark chapter 9 verse 50, Jesus is talking about the salt like this.
마가복음 9장 50절에서도 예수님께서 소금에 대해서 말씀하시는데 이렇게 말씀하고 계십니다.

Salt is good: but if the salt have lost his saltness, wherewith will ye season it? Have salt in yourselves, and have peace one with another.
소금은 좋은 것이로되 만일 소금이 제 짠맛을 잃으면 너희가 무엇으로 그것의 맛을 내리요? 너희 속에 소금을 두고 서로 화목하라, 하시니라.

We can find the tastiness of the salt is the tastiness of peace.
이 말씀에서 볼 수 있는 소금의 맛은 말하자면, 화목의 맛이라고 할 수 있겠습니다.

And Colossians chapter 4 verse 6 says this.
또한 골로새서 4장 6절의 말씀은 이렇게 기록하고 있습니다.

Let your speech be alway with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.
너희 말을 소금으로 간 맞추어 항상 은혜가 있게 하라. 그리하면 너희가 각 사람에게 마땅히 대답할 바를 알게 되리라.

What is the tastiness of the salt in this verse?
이 말씀에서 볼 수 있는 소금의 맛은 무엇일까요?

Yes, it's the tastiness of grace.
네, 말하자면 은혜의 맛입니다.

Koreans often say like this when they get into a fight.
보통 세상에서 사람들이 다른 사람과 싸울 때 이런 말을 합니다.

“You wanna taste the bitterness of life?”
인생의 쓴 맛이 보고 싶냐?

They use the word “taste.”
맛이란 표현을 사용합니다.

These kinds of tastes are bitter from the flesh.
이런 맛들은 다 육신으로부터 나오는 쓴 맛들입니다.

But when we deny our flesh and walk with the Lord, then we can have the taste of peace and grace in our speech and behavior.
그러나 우리가 육신을 부인하고 주님과 동행하는 가운데 우리에게서 나오는 말과 행동의 맛은 바로 화목의 맛, 그리고 은혜의 맛인 것입니다.

When people can taste peace and grace from us, then we are doing well as a salt that has not lost its saltiness.
사람들이 우리를 대할 때 화목을 느낄 수 있고 은혜를 느낄 수 있을 때, 우리는 맛을 잃지 않은 소금으로써의 제 역할을 잘 감당하고 있는 것입니다.

I hope we live every day to reveal Christ.
우리가 날마다 그리스도만을 드러내는 삶을 살기 원합니다.

And I hope people can taste and see that the Lord is good, and not taste the bitterness from our flesh.
그래서 사람들이 우리의 육신에서 나오는 쓴맛이 아닌 주님의 선하심을 맛보아 알게 되기를 원합니다.

The salt produces thirst.
소금은 갈증을 일으킨다

We can find another feature of salt. Salt produces thirst.
또한 소금의 한 가지 특징은 갈증을 일으킨다는 것입니다.

When we eat salty food then we are going to have to drink water continuously.
우리가 음식을 짜게 먹으면 계속 물이 먹힙니다.

There was a boy who could not taste saltiness.
짠맛을 느끼지 못하는 소년이 있었습니다.

He could eat salt like we eat sugar.
우리가 설탕을 먹듯이 그 소년은 소금을 먹을 수 있었습니다.

He could drink a cup of soy sauce.
간장 한 컵을 그냥 마실 수도 있었습니다.

And then, there was a very interesting fact.
그런데 아주 흥미로운 사실이 있었습니다.

When he ate a lot of salt in a day he had to drink a lot of water at night.
낮에 소금을 많이 먹은 날은 밤에 물을 많이 찾게 된다는 것이었습니다.

His tongue could not taste salt, but his body felt thirsty.
그의 혀는 소금 맛을 못 느꼈지만, 그의 몸은 갈증을 느꼈던 것입니다.

Likewise salt makes people thirsty.
이처럼 소금은 갈증을 일으킵니다.

We are the salt.
우리는 소금입니다.

If we are following the Lord closely and are filled with the Holy Spirit, people will get a thirstiness about our God when they meet us.
우리가 주님과 밀착하여 주님을 따르는 성령 충만 가운데 있다면, 사람들은 우리를 대할 때 하나님에 대한 갈증을 느끼게 될 것입니다.

We need to cause people to be thirsty about God, and not give them a burden or pressure.
우리는 사람들에게 어떠한 부담이나 짐을 주는 것이 아니라, 하나님에 대한 갈증을 일으킬 수 있어야 합니다.

Commonly, if a child doesn't want to eat something, the parents will eat that same food so deliciously that it is like an absolute dream to eat it.
보통 아이들이 어떤 음식을 먹지 않으려고 할 때, 부모님은 그 아이 앞에서 그 음식을 맛있게 먹는 모습을 보여줍니다.

Then the child will see that and want to try to eat the food after that.
그러면 아이들은 그 모습을 보고 그 음식을 먹어보고 싶은 마음을 가지게 됩니다.

Believers, when we hear someone's cry, we must love our God!  Then we can gain approval.
우리가 어떤 사람이 믿는 이들이여 우리는 반드시 하나님을 사랑해야만 합니다! 라고 외친다면 우리는 고개를 끄덕일 것입니다.

However, when we see someone who has given his whole life to the Lord and serves others with joy and praise, then we have thirst and we think, "I want to live like him."
그러나 우리가 누군가가 자신의 온 인생을 주님께 드리고, 다른 이들을 기쁨과 찬양 가운데 섬기는 것을 본다면 우리는 갈증을 가지게 될 것입니다. “나도 저 사람처럼 살고 싶다.”

Salt produces thirst.
소금은 갈증을 일으킵니다.

We are the salt.
우리는 소금입니다.

We are the people who cause others to thirst for our God.
우리는 사람들에게 하나님에 대한 갈증을 일으키는 사람들입니다.

If we don't lose our saltiness, we can fulfill that role wherever we are put.
우리가 맛을 잃지 않았다면 우리는 어디에 있든지 그러한 역할을 감당하게 될 것입니다.

When we abide in the grace of the Lord always, and walk with the Lord closely, then we can display the Lord and not ourselves.
우리 자신이 먼저 늘 주님의 은혜 가운데 거하고, 주님과 가까이 동행하게 될 때에 우리는 사람들에게 나 자신의 모습이 아닌 주님의 모습을 나타내게 될 것입니다.

Salt melts into the food. 소금은 녹아 없어진다

I'd like us to think about the last aspect of salt, that salt melts into the food.
마지막으로 생각해 볼 소금의 특징은 녹아서 없어진다는 것입니다.

When salt is added on the food, then it loses its shape and permeates into the food.
소금이 음식물에 들어가게 될 때 소금은 자기 형체를 잃어버리고 녹아서 음식물 속에 완전히 스며들게 됩니다.

Salt loses its shape forever, but we can still taste salt in the food.
소금의 형체는 완전히 사라졌지만, 우리는 음식에서 소금의 맛을 느낄 수 있습니다.

Likewise, when we serve souls and love our brothers and sister, we need to melt away like the salt. 마찬가지로 우리가 영혼들을 섬길 때, 또한 형제 자매들을 사랑할 때 우리는 소금과 같이 녹아 없어져야 합니다.

My judgment, my style, my preferences, my temperament, and everything about me must melt away.
나의 판단과 나의 스타일과 나의 선호도, 나의 성질과 나의 모든 것이 다 녹아 없어져야 합니다.

When we melt into people who we need to serve, then we can have the tastiness of peace and grace. 우리 자신이 없어지고 완전히 스며들게 될 때에 비로소 우리는 화목의 맛, 은혜의 맛을 내게 되는 것입니다.

Our Lord Jesus became a corn of wheat and fell into the ground and died, which brought forth much fruit. 우리 주 예수님께서 한 알을 밀알이 되셔서 죽으셨을 때에 많은 열매를 거두셨습니다.

Like Jesus our flesh must be delivered unto the death of the cross.
예수님처럼 우리의 육신도 십자가의 죽음에 넘겨져야 합니다.

When the shape of salt disappears, then its taste is powerfully noticed in the food.
소금의 형체가 사라질 때에 비로소 음식 안에서 그 맛이 강력하게 나타나는 것입니다.

Closing 결론

I'd just like to mention some last thoughts.
마지막으로 한 부분만 더 보시겠습니다.

Our main text, the Gospel of Matthew chapter 5 verse 13 says this,
우리의 본문인 마태복음 5장 13절에서 이렇게 말씀합니다.

Ye are the salt of the earth. 너희는 땅의 소금이로되

Jesus used the word "ye" and that is plural.
예수님께서는 너희라는 복수 단어를 사용하셨습니다.

We are not salt individually but when we meet together we are the salt.
우리 각자가 소금이 아니라 우리가 모여서 소금인 것입니다.

Not I am salt, but we are salt.
내가 소금이 아니고 우리가 소금입니다.

In this we can find the importance of the church.
여기서 우리는 교회의 소중함을 발견하게 됩니다.

Each of us is weak individually.
우리 각자는 너무나 연약하고 부족합니다.

Each of us falls and fails very often.
우리 각자는 너무나 자주 넘어지고 실패합니다.

But when we meet together as the church, we are strong and intact.
그러나 우리가 교회 함께 모일 때에 우리는 힘차고 온전합니다.

When we meet together as the church, we can rise again and have strength again.
우리가 교회로 모일 때에 우리는 다시 일어나고 힘을 얻습니다.

We are the salt.
우리는 소금입니다.

We can have the right taste of saltiness when we bear our cross and love each other fervently as the Lord's disciples.
우리가 주님의 제자로서 십자가를 지고 서로 뜨겁게 사랑할 때에 비로소 우리는 소금의 제 맛을 낼 수 있습니다.

또한 주님의 제자들에게 말씀드리기 원합니다.

We are the salt.
우리는 소금입니다.

Jesus doesn't say we need to try to be the salt.
예수님께서는 우리가 소금이 되기 위해 노력하라고 하지 않으셨습니다.

We are the salt already.
우리는 이미 소금입니다.

We are the salt similar to the salinity ingredient of 0.9% in the human blood.
우리는 사람의 피 속에 있는 0.9%의 소금 성분과도 같습니다.

Even though it is such a small amount, it is still vital for health.
그것이 비록 아주 적은 양이라 할지라도 건강을 위해 반드시 필요한 것입니다.

Likewise our role might be very small. Though we know that God puts us in the exact position He wants for us.
이와 같이 우리의 역할이 아주 미약할지라도 하나님께서는 우리를 가장 필요한 자리에 두셨습니다.

Salt symbolizes the holiness of the Lord.
또한 소금은 주님의 거룩함을 상징하고 있습니다.

Salt has the tastiness of peace and grace.
소금은 은혜와 화목의 맛을 가지고 있습니다.

Salt produces thirst.
소금은 갈증을 일으킵니다.

And salt melts into the food and becomes one with it.
또한 소금은 음식 속에 스며들어 하나가 됩니다.

Individually, we are weak and lacking, but when we meet together we can be strong.
개별적으로 우리는 약하고 부족하지만, 우리가 함께 모일 때 우리는 강할 수 있습니다.

Thank God for the brothers and sisters in the church that we can love and encourage.
우리가 서로 사랑하고 격려할 수 있는 교회 안에 형제 자매들로 인하여 하나님께 감사합니다.

Heavenly Father, we thank You for Your Word.
하늘의 하나님 아버지, 말씀으로 인하여 감사합니다.

Please help us to remember that our lives are very short and we only have one chance to go through this life.
우리로 하여금 우리의 인생이 매우 짧고 오직 한번 주어진 것임을 기억하게 하시기 원합니다.

So please help us to live as salt of the earth and disciples of the Lord.
그래서 우리가 소금으로서, 주님의 제자로서의 삶을 살 수 있도록 도와주시기 원합니다.
